The Talk: Tools for Courageous Conversations

Being an educator or social service provider is not easy. What if we're required to have conversations with students or families on challenging topics- such as race, class/privilege, and inequality? What if we are challenged because we don't know what to say, how to say it, and we don't want to get it wrong? This powerful and thought-provoking keynote (or masterclass) supports educators with developing the skill-set to better understand themselves, their own biases, the complex world around them, and it also supports participants with learning how to "show up," dare greatly and create safe spaces for challenging conversations. In order for our students to grow in their awareness, we must become champions of social justice! One of our greatest roles is to support students in learning HOW to think and reason. If we don't choose to have challenging conversations around social issues, we'll miss out on a pivotal moment to support students in creating a more just and equitable world. We'll also dissect how our own biases and misconceptions that get in the way of fruitful conversations that lead to transformative critical thinking. In order to create "conscious classrooms" / spaces, we must first raise our own level of consciousness.

SoulVitamins: YOU MATTER (How Full is YOUR Cup?)

This talk is ideal for ANYONE who is in a servant-capacity role or for those who are a caregiver of others. Rather it's a room full of educational administrators and college presidents, teachers and support staff, cafeteria personnel, district & community officials, social workers and counselors, moms and dads, executives, or those in ANY caring capacity role, they will love Michael's raw truths and powerful vulnerabilities about living a wholehearted life. This talk is to enrich, encourage, and help them see how they, too, can fill up their own cup! The reality is that we cannot give that which we do not have, yet we try anyway! How can we expect to pour into others well and fruitfully if our cup is running on low and we are living on "E"-- burning fumes and barely making it from day to day. To decrease burn-out and increase awareness + connection, this talk is for you! Throughout this life, we will inevitably face challenges that cause us see ourselves and the world differently. We'll experience setbacks, set-ups, and even some comebacks. But how do we use our trials to grow us? Based on principles from his bestselling book, Soul Vitamins: Minerals for the Mind, Body & Soul, Michael will deliver an empowering and insightful keynote where we will discuss a set of tools that lead to living a more fulfilled and wholehearted life! Are you ready? Get set. Let's GROW!

Creating Whole Living

As one who is often called upon to counsel individuals and families, Michael shares applicable strategy on wholehearted living. We discuss ways to better connect with young people, how to support our children with finding and using their voice appropriately, encouraging them to beat the odds, how to practice healthy self-care, and even the radical power behind our words of, "I love you" to our children. This topic is customized to the needs and theme of the conference.

Silent Cries of the Fatherless

Having both a mother and father present is a primitive need; a longing and need that is embedded within us at the molecular level since the beginning of time. The research is clear: when a father is not present, the child / family is more likely to have a lower quality of life. But what does "present" look like? The sad reality is that too many of our children are growing up without constant, stable, PRESENT, and fruitful fathers/parents. This type of deficit shows up in their teenage and adult lives; in how they build relationships; in how they see the world and in how they see / support themselves. But, how do we support them? Better yet, how do we support communities, organizations, families, and fathers in better understanding the vital role of "fatherhood"? This keynote will incorporate data, as well as, practical understanding of the impact of fatherless, the side effects of the trauma that it causes, and what we can do to better equip and support fathers to show up and be present & fruitful in their children's lives.

Building Community through Connection: Pathways to Providing Hope, Healing, and Belonging to Youth & Families

Many of our youth and families are suffering and there is a crisis leading to hopelessness for many. In order to ensure our youth are ready to advance to the next life phase, we must equip them to cultivate hope, develop resilience and acquire skills to respond to trauma effectively. In his engaging keynote, “Building Community through Connection,” Michael uses his skills and experience as an educator and counselor to support, encourage, and challenge participants to #RiseUp and be agents of healing. We will address everyday ways that we can build equitable community, how we can understand the side effects of trauma differently, and how to support young people in strengthening their resiliency.

Michael Believes:

See Me; Hear Me: Understanding their Cries

In order to effectively understand the cries of those whom we serve, we must raise our own levels of consciousness. Some of our children and families face insurmountable obstacles, and in order to effectively support them in being the highest version of themselves, it's crucial that we build community through understanding. Far too often, blind spots and biases are hidden forces that shape our opinions, perceptions, and decisions about those whom we serve. We'll learn that, in order to serve in a healthy way, we must first become self-aware of these biases, and then understand our role in being the change agents that our communities so desperately desire and deserve. We'll also learn how to understand the cries of our most vulnerable populations. The real change begins with us. We'll ultimately see that, to change the world around us, we must first change & awaken the world within us.

Support for the Wounded Family

Powerful and relevant support for equipping wounded young people and families. This topic is customized to the needs and theme of the conference and can also be apart of a panel discussion.
